09/01/26 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 9 January, Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, said that it was necessary to appoint a special European envoy on the Ukrainian question, in order to speak with one voice to Russia. A “special European envoy on the Ukrainian question (...) would enable us to synthesise and speak with one voice”, because “since the start of the negotiations, many voices have been speaking, many formats have existed”, she explained to the media. According to Ms Meloni, “the time has come when Europe should also talk to Russia”, but “the question is who should do it”. “If we made the mistake of deciding on the one hand to re-establish communication with Russia, and on the other hand to go about it in a disorganised fashion, we would be doing (Vladimir) Putin a favour, which is the last thing I want”, she warned.
