09/01/26 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the European Union has renewed for one year, until 13 January 2027, the sanctions (freezing of assets, travel ban, ban on making funds available) imposed by the EU against eight Guatemalan officials who have undermined democracy and the rule of law in Guatemala, and against the ‘Foundation Against Terrorism’ (see EUROPE 13658/19). According to an EU Council press release, the EU has mobilised an ad hoc mission to accompany the appointment processes for the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the Constitutional Court and the Attorney General in 2026.
