05/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – The early parliamentary elections in Kosovo on 28 December resulted in a very large victory for the incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, who won almost 50% of the vote. A triumph for the head of government, who benefited greatly from the vote of expatriate citizens, over 60% of whom voted for him. These elections ensure that Albin Kurti will be able to form a new government and bring Kosovo out of the political impasse in which the country has been mired since February (see EUROPE 13646/26). In a statement, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, welcomed the election result and called on the next government to “redouble its efforts to complete the essential EU-related reforms”, in particular the ratification of the European Growth Plan funding for the region (see EUROPE 13671/16).
