04/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the European Parliament called on the European Commission not to propose mandatory targets for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles, in a letter sent to its President, Ursula von der Leyen, on Thursday 4 December. The group believes that “any fleet policy should remain technology-neutral and avoid de-facto exclusions of alternative fuels, hybrid solutions and combustion technologies capable of delivering emissions reductions”. The Commission is due to present an initiative on Wednesday 10 December on the greening of corporate fleets (see EUROPE 13723/9). The ECR group felt that “a more effective and credible approach lies in establishing the enabling conditions for a successful transition”, in particular through a solid recharging and refuelling infrastructure or significant investment incentives.
