06/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – In an article mentioning the adoption by the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on Wednesday 5 November of an opinion on the inclusion of a 90% reduction target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 (see EUROPE 13746/2), Agence Europe falsely stated that the final opinion rejected the inclusion of international carbon credits at a level of 3% to achieve the 90% target. In fact, the final text retains this option, which appeared in the European Commission’s initial proposal (see EUROPE 13672/1) and insists on a ceiling of 3% of the EU’s net emissions in 1990 accumulated over the period 2036–2040.
