06/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 5 November, Member States’ permanent representatives to the EU (Coreper) failed to reach an agreement on the revision of the Energy Taxation Directive. According to a European source that Agence Europe contacted the next day, a large number of Member States have clearly indicated that they could support the compromise proposal as it was presented (see EUROPE 13745/12). However, according to another source, two Member States are opposed to it for various reasons. They mentioned specific issues on which they would like additional work to be carried out. Although no consensus was reached, the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU declared that it would continue to discuss the matter bilaterally and try to find a general approach during the Ecofin Council meeting on Thursday, 13 November.
