European Research Council awarding €684 million in grants to 66 teams tackling major scientific challenges

06/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – Sixty-six research teams, bringing together 239 scientists, will receive €684 million in Synergy grants from the European Research Council, announced the European Commission in a press release on Thursday 6 November. These grants support small groups of researchers working together on ambitious, high-risk, high-gain projects. 712 proposals were submitted, of which around one in ten were selected. Each winning project will receive around €10.3 million. The projects funded cover a wide range of disciplines: - the use of microbes to correct genetic diseases; - studies on the first microseconds after the birth of the universe; - new approaches to modelling crowd behaviour combining the physical and social sciences; - studies on how mountain societies and ecosystems adapt to environmental and social change.
