21/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 21 October, the European Parliament ratified the agreements with the Council of the European Union on two road safety texts: - the revision of the directive on driving licences, and; - the directive on driving disqualifications. The first text limits the validity of the licence to 15 years, and introduces a digital version and a probationary period of at least two years for novice drivers (see EUROPE 13607/7). In addition, Member States will be able to subject drivers aged 65 or over to medical checks. The second text will make it possible to punish the perpetrators of serious road traffic offences throughout the EU, regardless of the Member State in which the offence was committed (see EUROPE 13608/4). For its part, the Council has already approved these agreements (see EUROPE 13716/42). Read the directives: https://aeur.eu/f/j2g ; https://aeur.eu/f/j2h (AD)
