09/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament is calling for the release of two Spanish citizens, Javier Marañón Montero and David Rodríguez Ballesta, who were arrested in January this year in the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo, for alleged involvement in a corruption case. On Thursday 9 October, MEPs adopted by a show of hands a resolution denouncing arbitrary detention and unacceptable prison conditions. MEPs call on the Guinean authorities to lift the provisional detention, respect the right to a fair trial and guarantee access to legal assistance and medical care, particularly for Mr Marañón Montero, who is on hunger strike.
