Euro area payment service providers now required to offer instant transfers

09/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – Payment service providers in the euro area are now legally obliged to offer their customers a service for sending instant payments in euros, as well as a ‘Verification of Payee’ service, said the European Commission on Thursday 9 October. “We will monitor the concrete implementation in Member States so that everyone can fully benefit from these new rules”, warned Maria Albuquerque, European Commissioner for Financial Services.
