29/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 29 September, the Council of the European Union adopted new rules guaranteeing “the completeness, coherence and comparability of statistics collected on population and housing at EU level”, according to a press release. The regulation aims to improve the overall quality of statistics on population and housing by introducing a harmonised definition of the term ‘population’ (specifying, for example, the definition of a household, habitual residence, immigrant or emigrant), facilitating access to data sources and streamlining and improving statistical production in this respect. The aim of the regulation is to “ensure [the provision of] complete, coherent and comparable statistics in a timely manner, [to] improve the quality of population data [and to ensure that statistics are] flexible enough to adapt to changing policy needs and the use of new sources”. The European Parliament must also adopt this regulation. Further information: https://aeur.eu/f/inm (SP)
