Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, announced on Saturday 27 September that he would be attending the seventh meeting of the European Political Community (EPC), to be held in Copenhagen on 2 October.
He will emphasise the importance of the Council of Europe’s New Democratic Pact, and stress that it is vital to guarantee democratic security in the face of both traditional threats and new hybrid forms of pressure.
Alain Berset will also highlight the decisive role played by the Council of Europe in supporting Ukraine, mentioning in particular the Register of Damage, the work on future accountability mechanisms and the Action Plan Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction (2023-2026), which supports the crucial reforms needed to ensure Ukraine’s membership of the European Union and its democratic security.
This speech is part of an official visit to Denmark from 1 to 3 October, which will include a meeting with the Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, where migration issues will be discussed. (Original version in French by Véronique Leblanc)
