18/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 18 July, Régions de France, an association representing the regions of mainland France, overseas France and similar local authorities, criticised the proposals for the European Union’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2028-2034 (see EUROPE 13682/1). At this stage, it is concerned that these proposals will lead to a retreat from the European project, by leading to the renationalisation of several historic policies with a strong territorial impact, such as cohesion, agriculture and fisheries. It is also worried that regional management authorities will be “placed under national control” and that Europe’s ambitions for food sovereignty could be undermined by “weakening the Common Agricultural Policy”. The association nevertheless welcomes the European Commission’s ambition to introduce new own resources, in order to provide the Union with the necessary means to better meet the many issues and challenges it faces.
