17/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 17 July, the anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, the High Representative of the Union, Kaja Kallas, welcomed the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) of 9 July 2025 and the decision of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council of 12 May 2025, declaring Russia responsible for the downing of the flight and the death of the 298 people on board. “The European Union reiterates its full support for all efforts to establish truth, justice and accountability, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2166”, stressed Ms Kallas in a statement on behalf of the EU. She also reiterated the EU’s call on Russia to acknowledge its responsibility for this tragedy and to cooperate fully in efforts to bring justice. (CG)
