16/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – Trade between the EU and Canada has increased by 71% since the provisional application of the trade agreement between them (CETA), according to a study published by the European Commission on Monday 16 June. Trade reached €123 billion in 2023. Services are particularly affected, with an 81% increase in European services that are exported to Canada. According to the study, SMEs stand to benefit greatly from the CETA, since their exports to Canada are growing faster than those of other businesses. On both sides of the Atlantic, wages have also risen thanks to CETA, according to the European Commission: +0.02% in the EU and +0.1% in Canada. The study highlights the fact that investment protection, which has not yet been applied, could bring even greater economic benefits, as could other elements that are pending the ratification of the agreement.
