06/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – At their plenary session on Tuesday 6 May, the Members of the European Parliament approved without a vote an Interinstitutional Agreement on benchmarks concluded with the Council of the EU in December 2024. The text aims to protect financial stability while reducing the administrative and regulatory burden (see EUROPE 13545/16). At the beginning of April, the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs approved the recommendation of rapporteur Jonás Fernández (S&D, Spanish) to ratify the agreement. The regulation will enter into force on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and will apply from 1 January 2026.
