07/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – While the compromise amendments to the own-initiative report on the security of energy supply by the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) are due on 22 May, 428 individual amendments were tabled on 20 March. The draft report by Beata Szydło (ECR, Polish) stresses in particular the need to increase natural gas production in the EU and the European Economic Area (see EUROPE 13591/9, 13602/5). Several amendments from different political groups modify this passage, either to delete it, clarify it or replace it. The differences can be seen, for example, within the Renew Europe group alone, where several MEPs added the need to increase hydrogen production, in addition to increasing natural gas production, while others deleted the entire passage and specified, above, the importance of increasing domestic production of renewable energy.
