01/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – At the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg on Tuesday 1 April, MEPs approved the appointment of Lucian Romaşcanu as the Romanian Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA). Lucian Romaşcanu, whose nomination had previously been approved by the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), is a former Romanian Minister of Culture and is currently President of Buzau County Council in Romania. The MEPs supported his appointment by 437 votes to 128 with 92 abstentions. The term of office of the current Romanian member of the ECA, Viorel Ştefan, will expire on 30 June. The final decision must now be taken by the EU Member States. (IS)
