01/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – Following the attack on Friday 28 March on a group of Serbian students travelling in Sarajevo by a group of hooded gunmen, the European Union delegation in Bosnia-Herzegovina reacted on Monday 31 March in a post on X, “strongly condemning” the attack and calling on local authorities to “bring the perpetrators swiftly to justice”. The EU’s high representative in the region, Christian Schmidt, also commented on the incident, stating that “such violence demands a decisive response”. This incident illustrates the political and social tensions emanating from the Western Balkans region, where Serbia has been in the grip of large-scale protests for several months (see EUROPE 13608/14) and the sovereignty of Bosnia’s judiciary is being called into question by the separatist ambitions of Milorad Dodik (see EUROPE 13599/17).
