21/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – The Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) has launched a public consultation, which will be open from 20 March to 17 April, to assess the impact of developing ‘peak-shaving products’ on the European electricity market “under normal market conditions”. These products are tools that enable market participants to reduce their electricity consumption during peak times in exchange for compensation. Member States may ask network operators to use them in the event of a regional or European electricity-price crisis. ACER is trying to find out whether these products can also be introduced outside of crises without disrupting the EU’s electricity market or undermining other demand response programmes. It will publish an assessment in summer 2025 in order to inform potential amendments to the Electricity Market Design Regulation (see EUROPE 13454/27). The consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/g20 (PLD)
