Promotion of fairer and more inclusive education guides discussions of EU Member States’ education ministers

The education ministers of the EU Member States will meet in Warsaw (Poland) on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 January for two days of informal meetings.

The theme of the meeting is “Fostering equity and opportunity: Challenges in implementing inclusive education”, and the aim is to discuss the educational strategies needed to better understand the school population’s diversity in order to combat inequality.

Discussions will focus in particular on preventive approaches to promote inclusion from early childhood and in schools, as set out in the priorities of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union (see EUROPE 13552/2).

The issue of inclusive education as a tool enabling both social resilience and cohesion and the training of active citizens who respect European values of diversity and equity will be at the heart of the debates.

Using data to guide and evaluate education policies is also on the agenda.

This is an approach that would make it possible to identify concrete measures to meet the needs of learners, whatever their socio-economic background or abilities.

For the Polish presidency of the EU Council, which also aims to draw lessons from the first phase of the European education area and define priorities for the period 2025-2030, this meeting must focus on proactive approaches to learning and the prevention of social exclusion.
