20/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 January, the European Commission granted the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) legal status as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). The EHRI becomes the 30th ERIC to be set up since 2011. This recognition underlines the essential role of the EHRI in safeguarding the historical archives relating to the Holocaust and their relevance to modern society, says the Commission. Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Research, said that “EHRI’s cutting-edge infrastructure and services plays a vital role in promoting open access to historical data, fostering new centres of excellence, and safeguarding Europe’s shared heritage”. The EHRI will continue to inspire new generations of researchers and academics to “explore the complexities of the Holocaust and its impact on European society”, she added. (LC)
