20/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 January, the spokesman for the European External Action Service reiterated his deep concern at the latest executions in Kuwait, regretting the continued use of the death penalty in the country, following the executions in September 2024. Five people convicted of murder were executed on Sunday. “The EU, as a matter of principle, strongly opposes the death penalty at all times and in all circumstances. It is an inhumane punishment which has been proven ineffective as a deterrent to crime and represents a denial of the fundamental right to life and human dignity”, the spokesman reiterated. He promised that the EU would continue to work towards the abolition of the death penalty in countries that still apply it. (CG)
