European Commission authorises marketing of insect meal

20/01/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 January, the European Commission adopted an implementing regulation authorising the marketing of UV-treated Tenebrio molitor (mealworm) whole larvae powder as a novel food. The EPP and ECR groups in the European Parliament had unsuccessfully proposed objecting to this implementing act (see EUROPE B13559A18), which had already been approved by EU countries in a qualified majority vote on 20 November 2024 in the Standing Committee on Novel Foods.
