17/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – Contrary to what we reported in the EUROPE 13559/12 article, published on 16 January, the European Finance Ministers will meet on Monday 20 January for an informal dinner at which they will discuss, among other things, high energy prices in Europe, on the eve of the Ecofin Council on 21 January, and not at the end of it. In addition to this discussion on the integration of the European energy market, based on a recent analysis by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Ministers will look at transatlantic economic relations. This informal exchange will take place on the day of the inauguration of US President Donald Trump. “This is a great moment to reflect on this matter. Increased economic cooperation with the US in energy, trade, or defence seems to be worth exploring”, says the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU in its invitation to the dinner.
