08/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 10 January, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and the Romanian Ambassador to the United States, Andrei Muraru, will formalise Romania’s accession to the United States Visa Waiver Program, according to a press release from the Romanian Embassy in the United States quoted by Euractiv. At this meeting, the US government representative will officially inform the Romanian government representative of the US authorities’ decision to admit Romania to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), while also communicating the technical details and date of entry into force of the new travel regime for Romanian citizens. Only Romania, Bulgaria and Cyprus are currently excluded from the US programme, which allows EU nationals to travel to the United States without a visa. (SP)
