18/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – The Heads of State or Government of European Union countries will briefly discuss the political crisis in Venezuela on Thursday 19 December, in Brussels. They will again call for the release of all political opponents detained by the Maduro regime and for the country’s authorities to respect their commitments to comply with international law. “The European Union will mobilise all the tools at its disposal” to support democracy and a peaceful political transition in Venezuela, read the draft conclusions of the European Council meeting on Tuesday 17 December, obtained by Agence Europe. On Tuesday, the European Parliament awarded the 2024 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the Venezuelan political opposition (see EUROPE 13547/21).
