18/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 18 December, the European Commission launched an in-depth investigation to determine whether the public support that Poland plans to grant to a nuclear power plant in Lubiatowo-Kopalino, will comply with EU rules on State aid. In September 2024, Poland notified its intention to support the state-owned company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe sp. z o.o (PEJ) with the construction of a new nuclear power plant (electricity generation capacity of up to 3,750 MW). Total investment costs for the project are estimated to be €45 billion. Poland plans to support this investment by means of a capital injection of €14 billion covering 30% of the project costs. At this stage, the European Commission has doubts as to whether the measure fully complies with EU State aid rules. Details can be found here: https://aeur.eu/f/evc (LC)
