The EPP Group in the European Parliament intends to influence the drafting of the work programme for 2025 which the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is due to present on Tuesday 11 February in Strasbourg.
According to a provisional document obtained by Agence Europe, the Christian Democrats have drawn up a list of some thirty initiatives in several categories: economic transition and competitiveness, regulatory simplification, agriculture, the Rule of law and democracy, defence and security, and migration.
Among the initiatives to be presented within the first 100 days of the ‘von der Leyen II’ Commission’s mandate is a proposal to revise the ban on new vehicles powered by internal combustion engines after 2035, in order to introduce a technology-neutral approach and give alternative fuels a role.
It should be noted that the revision of the European Climate Law with a view to setting climate targets for 2040 does not appear to be a priority for the EPP Group.
