20/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 19 November, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, announced on the X network the arrival in Beirut of 50 tonnes of essential health supplies and shelters for people affected by the violence in Lebanon (see EUROPE 13506/2). The supplies, provided by the European Union’s humanitarian partners, were flown in on two aircraft as part of the air bridge set up by the EU at the beginning of October (see EUROPE 13516/16). Since the Israeli bombardments, which began on 23 September, escalated into open conflict with Hezbollah, the Lebanese authorities have asked the EU for help in obtaining “vital medical equipment and medicines”, due to the growing number of victims and the pressure on the country’s health facilities (see EUROPE 13508/2).
