Weimar Triangle leaders call for transparent investigations into 26 October elections

07/11/24 (Agence Europe)In a joint statement issued on Thursday 7 November, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on the Georgian authorities to conduct “swift and transparent investigations of all complaints” relating to the parliamentary elections of 26 October and to shed light on “the reported irregularities”. “[We] will carefully examine the final report of the international observation mission, which we expect in due time”, warned the leaders of the Weimar Triangle. “Unless Georgia reverses its current course of action and demonstrates tangible reform efforts, in particular by repealing recent legislation that runs counter to European values and principles, we will not be in a position to support the opening of accession negotiations with Georgia”, they also stressed.
