05/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 5 November, the European Commission proposed to provide €700,000 from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to support 632 workers made redundant in Belgium, according to a press release. “In July 2024, Belgium applied for EGF funding to help workers in the Flemish province of Limburg made redundant by Purmo (machinery) and Sappi (paper) to find new jobs. A large number of redundancies concern low-skilled workers aged 50 and over, some of whom have an immigrant background, who generally find it more difficult to find a job on the Flemish labour market”, adds the Commission. The funding will help finance career advice and guidance, job search assistance and training. The total cost of these measures is estimated at €1.2 million. The European Parliament and the Council of the EU must approve the proposal. (SP)
