On Tuesday 5 November at the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin), the EU Council adopted conclusions on the Court of Auditors’ special report on the EU’s industrial policy on renewable hydrogen, which was published last July (see EUROPE 13455/11), welcoming the report’s findings.
The latter was critical of the European Commission’s targets for 2030 of 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen produced and 10 million tonnes imported, deeming them “unrealistic”.
In response to the Court of Auditors’ publication, the EU Council’s conclusions call for the rapid implementation of the EU regulatory framework and invite the European Commission to take measures that support “both the competitiveness of EU industry and the security of investment”.
The conclusions also focus on the interconnection of European networks, which will be vital to facilitate the cross-border transportation and storage of hydrogen and to link producers and buyers. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
