18/10/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 18 October, the European Commission announced that the previous day it had made a payment of €16 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This payment follows the first instalment of €50 million paid on 7 March following the exchange of letters between the Commission and UNRWA, and the second payment of €16 million on 31 May. This third payment completes the payments of the €82 million allocated to the agency for 2024. “This third disbursement is in line with the agreed conditions between the Commission and UNRWA to enhance the neutrality processes and controls systems in the Agency”, said the Commission in a press release. The UN agency is currently facing Israeli attempts to ban it. (CG)
