18/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 17 October, Christophe Clergeau MEP (S&D, French) said that “merging the EU4Health programme into a ‘single competitiveness fund’ would be a strategic error that would weaken the European Union’s ability to respond to current and future health challenges”. He was reacting to the plan to recast the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034), which envisages bringing together several sectoral programmes (including EU4Health and the health component of Horizon Europe) in a single Global Competitiveness Fund (see EUROPE 13498/11). Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament’s health group, the Frenchman said he was “determined to lead this fight to avoid a step backwards that would wipe out more than 20 years of progressive construction on European health policy”.
