On Wednesday 9 October, the European Commission launched a public consultation to assess the effectiveness of the European securitisation framework. This framework is designed to support the implementation of the Capital Markets Union (CMU) and the Savings and Investment Union, promoted by the President-elect, Ursula von der Leyen (see EUROPE 13485/12).
According to the Commission, the consultation is specifically aimed at market players with expertise in securitisation. It targets issuers, investors, sponsors, service providers, arrangers, third-party auditors and all other established market participants, such as data repositories, rating agencies, industry associations, competent authorities and research institutes.
The purpose of the consultation is to gather the views of stakeholders on the effectiveness of the current framework and the scope of the EU regulation that governs it (see EUROPE 12686/39). It covers due diligence, transparency, supervision and appropriate prudential treatment.
The consultation is open until 4 December.
