07/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 5 October, the European Union condemned the massacre in Pont Sondé the previous Thursday, attributed to the Gran Grif gang and marking a new escalation of extreme violence in Haiti. According to the UN, 70 people lost their lives. The EU has called for the full deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) to help the Haitian National Police in its fight against gangs and to re-establish the rule of law (see EUROPE 13377/6). “The EU will continue to use all tools, including targeted sanctions against the individuals and entities responsible for this senseless violence, with the aim of helping to restore peace, security, stability, democracy and the rule of law in Haiti”, a spokesman for the European External Action Service said in a statement on Saturday.
