07/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 6 October, German MEP Svenja Hahn was elected as the new President of the ALDE Party for a two-year mandate with over 96% of the vote. “We liberals must bundle and reform our forces in Europe and find common answers to the challenges of our time. Liberal forces are successful when they counter populists with progressive reforms”, she declared during her election. According to Ms Hahn, liberals must “resolutely” defend the Rule of law and democracy, strengthen competitiveness and economic growth, and enhance security and defence capabilities. The Congress, meeting in Estoril (Portugal), also elected Estonian Yoko Alender, Ukrainian Yevheniia Kravchuk, Slovakian Lucia Plaváková, Finnish Jouni Ovaska, British Sal Brinton and Belgian Rik Daems as Vice-Presidents of the ALDE Party.
