03/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 3 October, the European Commission decided to send reasoned opinions to the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Portugal asking them to comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA). These countries are the last to have not yet empowered the digital service coordinators they designated to implement the DSA. The Commission believes that they have also failed to lay down rules on the penalties applicable in the event of a breach of the DSA. The EU had already sent letters of formal notice on this subject last April. Member States had until 17 February to designate and empower digital services coordinators, the independent regulatory authorities responsible for overseeing the implementation and application of the DSA at national level. The Czech Republic, Cyprus and Portugal now have two months to regularise their situation. (IS)
