03/10/24 (Agence Europe) – A delegation of MEPs from the S&D Group in the European Parliament visited the Audi plant in Forest (Brussels, Belgium) on Thursday 3 October to meet management and trade union representatives ahead of next week’s plenary debate on the future of the automotive sector in Europe. The mission was organised at the request of Estelle Ceulemans (S&D, Belgian), coordinator of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee, according to her office. The aim of the meeting was to “determine the causes and consequences of the relocation of production of the Audi Q8 e-tron to Mexico, as well as to look at ways forward for the business and the workers in this sector”. “The EU has a role to play. Not only to support and accompany the workers affected, but also to ensure the development and maintenance of leading technological and industrial activities”, according to the MEP. (SP)
