EU activates its civil protection mechanism in Greece, where forest fires rage

01/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Union activated its civil protection mechanism in Greece on Tuesday 1 October, as numerous fires raged across the country. Greece had activated this mechanism the day before, an initiative that enabled the EU’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre to mobilise three fire-fighting aircraft.
