04/09/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has launched a call for candidates for the next Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the agency announced on Tuesday 3 September. Eligible candidates are invited to submit their applications before 27 September. The Executive Director, who heads and manages EFSA, is appointed for a period of five years, renewable once for a further five years. The Executive Director will be appointed by the EFSA Management Board from a shortlist provided by the European Commission following the selection procedure. On 8 May, EFSA’s Management Board decided to appoint Bernhard Url as the agency’s interim Executive Director with effect from 1 June 2024. Having served as Director since 2014, Mr Url will remain in this position until the appointment of a new Director (see EUROPE 13408/19). (LC)
