European Commission consults on liberalisation of trade with Kyiv

04/09/24 (Agence Europe)The European Commission must decide, in consultation with Ukraine, on the case for trade tariffs before June 2025, when the temporary liberalisation of trade expires. A solution must be found between resuming the course of the EU-Ukraine trade agreement and its gradual liberalisation, on the one hand, and developing a new formula, on the other. This must take account of the sensitivity of certain agricultural products on the market and the need to support the Ukrainian economy, insists the Commission. With this in mind, it is seeking the public’s views on the subject until 1 October. In recent weeks, a number of automatic safeguards have been triggered on sensitive agricultural products, and some Member States have still not withdrawn their unilateral embargo on certain imports from Ukraine.
