Strategic Dialogue on Future of EU Agriculture draws to a close

Launched in January 2024, the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture, a forum designed to shape a shared vision for agriculture in the EU, completed its seventh and final session from 27 to 29 August.

Peter Strohschneider, the Chair of this Strategic Dialogue, which brings together 27 players from across the agri-food chain, “will now harvest the conclusions of the final Strategic Dialogue plenary session in order to complete the final text, and once this is ready the Commission will present the Chair with an opportunity to communicate its findings”, a European Commission spokesperson told Agence Europe on Friday 30 August.

The conclusions of this Strategic Dialogue could be presented next week, around the time of the informal meeting of European agriculture ministers, due to be held in Budapest from 8 to 10 September (see EUROPE 13453/3).

During the summer, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, prepared a draft directive on the protection of agricultural activities (this initiative is not on the European Commission’s agenda), including the creation of a post for a European ombudsman for farmers.
