On Wednesday 28 August, the Erasmus + programme published the results of the first European forum on the technical development of the student card, held on 19 June. This first meeting led to a request shared by the participants: to promote digital European student cards.
The aim of the forum, which brought together IT managers from the European University Alliances and the European University Information Systems (EUNIS) network, was to “capture users’ needs, insights, concerns, and proposed improvements to the European Student Card (ESC)”.
Some participants felt that the digitalisation of European student cards was a response to the development of “digital wallets”, which have become “commonplace for student cards”.
Promoting digital European student cards more than physical ones would also “help higher education institutions to digitalise further”, according to most of the participants. To this end, it has been proposed to “include specific ESC use cases in communication materials”. (Original version in French by Florent Servia)
