30/08/2024 (Agence Europe) – Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected as head of the European Commission by MEPs on 18 July, and is now in the process of putting together her College of Commissioners for the next 5 years. Member States had until 30 August to submit two names - one woman and one man - for the posts of European Commissioners. Agence Europe looks at the issues and the timetable for institutional renewal in a new episode of its podcast. Recorded on 29 August, this episode does not mention the candidates proposed by Bulgaria and Italy on Friday 30 August. In Italy, Giorgia Meloni’s government has put forward the name of Raffaele Fitto, Minister for European Affairs. The only country to explicitly respect the Commission President’s wish for parity, Bulgaria, submitted the names of Ekaterina Zaharieva and Julian Popov, two former ministers.
