European Disability Forum and its Ukrainian partners propose actions for inclusive reconstruction in Ukraine

On Tuesday 20 August, the European Disability Forum (EDF), in collaboration with its Ukrainian partners, the ‘National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities’ (NAPD) and the ‘League of the Strong’ (LoS), published a series of recommendations for inclusive reconstruction in Ukraine.

These recommendations aim to ensure that the process respects the rights of people with disabilities. EDF urges donors to pay urgent attention to this issue in their funding programmes for Ukraine.

To this end, the EDF has identified several priorities to guide their financial support.

This includes ensuring the participation of disabled people’s organisations in all decision-making processes, aligning reconstruction efforts with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and giving greater consideration to the most marginalised disabled people.

In addition, detailed data collection by gender, age and disability is also recommended. It is also important to prioritise the transition from residential institutions to community-based support for people with disabilities, whatever their age.
