23/08/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, indicated in mid-August that he was going to propose sanctions against those who support violent Israeli settlers, “including some Israeli government’s members”. “Day after day, in an almost total impunity, Israeli settlers fuel violence in the occupied West Bank, contributing to endanger any chance of peace. The Israeli government must stop these unacceptable actions immediately”, he declared via the X network, following further attacks on Palestinians in Jit. Since the Hamas terrorist attack on 7 October 2023, 640 Palestinians and almost 20 Israelis, both civilians and soldiers, have been killed in the West Bank, according to AFP. In July, the EU adopted sanctions against five individuals and three entities for serious and systematic human rights violations against Palestinians in the West Bank. (MB)
