After oats, sugar, eggs and oatmeal, Ukrainian honey will now be subject to tariff quotas from 21 August. The automatic safeguard provided for in the regulation on autonomous trade measures against Ukraine was triggered on Wednesday 21 August for Ukrainian honey, after imports of this product exceeded the maximum volume below which they are exempt from tariffs (44,417.56 tonnes per year).
Until 1 January 2025, the customs duty will be that applied to all the EU’s trading partners (outside the free trade agreement), set at 17.3%.
From 1 January until 5 June 2025, the conditions of the EU/Ukraine trade agreement will once again apply, and up to 18,507.32 tonnes of Ukrainian honey may be imported duty-free.
Of the seven Ukrainian products identified by the co-legislators for automatic safeguard, five have already reached the limits and are now subject to tariffs. Ukrainian maize and poultry can still be imported duty-free, but volumes are being closely monitored by the Commission.
