17/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – In a statement issued on Tuesday 16 July, the NGO network Transport & Environment (T&E) advised that “policymakers should move beyond a simplistic and arbitrary reduction in reporting requirements” (see EUROPE 13448/15). T&E is in favour of simplifying and harmonising standards but stresses that it is imperative to develop a nuanced approach that meets the specific needs and obligations of businesses. Finally, T&E considers that “portraying sustainability reporting as a limiting factor to competitiveness is misleading” and that it should instead be seen as a “business opportunity for the future”. The NGO network therefore calls on the new European Commission to strongly reaffirm its support for a solid sustainability reporting framework at EU level and not to dilute its foundations. (AD)
